The WPSec team couldn’t miss such an important event as WordCamp Europe 2022. We are very excited to share the experience of this event, which will take place in the city of Porto (Portugal) between June 2 and 4, 2022.
What is a WordCamp?
A WordCamp is an annual community event around the free software content manager WordPress.
It is articulated in a congress-type format with talks, presentations and workshops over a weekend. Speakers are WordPress users or professionals who participate for free and share their experience with other users and professionals.
Each WordCamp makes an open call to speakers in its initial phase of preparation where anyone can present themselves as a candidate to participate and expose their topic. Of course, that is as long as it complies with the principles of the GPL and talks with direct commercial objectives are excluded.
The organization team subsequently establishes a selection process for them aimed at offering a varied and quality program for users in their region.
The usual topics are: web design and development, online marketing, analytics, SEO, WPO, social media, copywriting, e-commerce, entrepreneurship, business, productivity and community experiences.
The spectrum of interests is, therefore, very broad, although it always revolves around the web world and specifically anything related to WordPress. The talks are usually of different levels, although emphasis is often placed on the initiation levels.
What can you do in a WordCamp?
Although the activities of each WordCamp can be very varied, there are some classic elements that will be present in the European WordCamp 2022:
- Lecture day: It is the day where talks and workshops are held. Sometimes they are divided into several tracks so that several simultaneous activities can take place in adjoining spaces.
- AfterParty: A party open to all attendees where they can have a drink and have fun in a relaxed atmosphere while getting to know each other a little better.
- Dinner for speakers, sponsors and organizers: This is a detail that you have with the group of people and entities that make the event possible and in the case of the speakers, it is the only direct return they receive for their participation.
- Contributor Day: Compared to the day of presentations where attendees receive valuable information, Contributor Day gives the opportunity to learn how to collaborate with the growth and improvement of WordPress and its user community. It is a way of giving back to the WordPress world what it has given us.
During Contributor Day, work tables organized by themes are installed where novice WordPressers receive instructions on how to collaborate from the hand of the most seasoned.
